Introduction

The following rules apply to all official Fabulae Marrii events and those only. They do not apply to experience groups or open raids.

DKP versus NBG

FM distributes loot by using a DKP bidding system. DKP stands for "dragon kill points" and is awarded for participating with guild events. While a DKP system is far from perfect and very time-consuming to maintain, it is - in our opinion - superior to the NBG (Need Before Greed) system.

NBG, while nice in theory, leads to trouble and unpleasant arguments. There is no way to prove whether the player who says he needs the item really needs it. And even if he needs it, there is no way to tell who needs it more if more players want the item. Deciding who gets an item will lead to more trouble as well. Using randoms is no fair way to distribute loot. Using a Loot Officer to decide who needs the drop the most will lead to accusations of favouritism. Therefore we decided against pure NBG, although we implemented NBG partially in our system.

The Basics

- Only those who can use (or can use within say 5 levels) an item may get this item during raids. A Mage will never get a Two-Handed Sword to sell it.
- Every raider may bid for items.
- Alternate characters (and 2-boxers) may only bid a certain amount of DKP (to be announced)!
- Alternate characters who have been invited by RC on a raid are considered as mains during bidding
- Every raider earns the same amount of DKP during a Raid (regardless of his status as Officer, Patron, Member, Probationary Member or Guest).
- Players can win 2 pieces of equipment per raid. Master Spells do not count against this limit (but are still distributed via bidding and are paid with DKP).

No Drop versus droppable items

Only No Drop items will be distributed during the raid. Droppable items will be distributed at the end. All items will be distributed by the secret auction method.

The Bidding

Every raider has to know his current amount of DKP. Before the raid starts, Raiders can ask the appointed Loot Officer for their up-to-date DKP amount.
The Loot Officer will announce the item that is bidded on in the main raid channel.
Then, the interested players send their bid IN A TELL to the Loot Officer. If the Loot Officer wants to bid himself, he sends another officer or the Raid Leader a tell with his bid. This is to prevent that the Loot Officer "adjusts" his bid. We do not want players to outbid each other on purpose. Every bid made in a channel will be cancelled immediately and the player will not take part in this bidding.
Every player can bid as much as he wants, up to his current number of DKP.
The highest bidder will win the item and the (2nd highest bid +1) DKP will be subtracted from his DKP.

Example:
- 'Long Sword of Orc Slaying' drops
- Loot Officer: <Send me your bids for 'Long Sword of Orc Slaying'>
- Fighter01 (43 total DKP) sends Loot Officer a tell: 20 DKP
- Fighter02 (65 total DKP) sends Loot Officer a tell: 15 DKP
- Fighter03 (32 total DKP) sends Loot Officer a tell: 32 DKP
- Fighter04 (25 total DKP) sends Loot Officer a tell: 35 DKP
- Loot Officer: <Last call for 'Long Sword of Orc Slaying'>
- Loot Officer checks whether the bidders have the sufficient amount of DKP. He sees Fighter04 overbid and takes him out of the bidding. Whether or not this will be counted as an offense or attempt of betrayal will be investigated.
- Loot Officer determines the winner: Fighter03 has the highest bid: 32 DKP. He has to spend 2nd highest bid + 1 for the sword = Fighter01's 20+1 = 21 DKP.
- Loot Officer: <Grats, Fighter03 on 'Long Sword of Orc Slaying' for 21 DKP>

If two players bid the same amount, the player with the higher total dkp will win the item. The winner will lose the DKP he bid.

Example:
- 'Robe of the Archmagus' drops
- Loot Officer: <Send me your bids for 'Robe of the Archmagus'>
- Mage01 (15 total DKP) sends Loot Officer a tell: 15 DKP
- Mage02 (60 total DKP) sends Loot Officer a tell: 30 DKP
- Mage03 (30 total DKP) sends Loot Officer a tell: 30 DKP
- Loot Officer: <Last call for 'Robe of the Archmagus'>
- Mage04 (35 total dkp) sends Loot Officer a tell: 20 DKP
- Loot Officer checks whether the bidders have the sufficient amount of DKP.
- Loot Officer determines the winner: Mage02 and Mage03 have both the same highest bid: 30 DKP. Mage02 has the higher total DKP (60) than Mage03 (30). Mage02 spends 30 DKP for the item.
- Loot Officer: <Grats, Mage02 on the 'Robe of the Archmagus' for 30 DKP>

If there are no bidders, the item either goes to the Guild Bank (droppable items) or will be randomed for the price of 0 DKP (No Drop items).

Earning DKP

Raids
A raid is more than 1 group (7+ players) which takes down a group*2+ Mob. Normally raid DKP is calculated by the number of groups that are required to finish the raid or take the Mob down. (Example: Octagorgon is a group*2 Mob > 2 DKP.)

If the Mob is grey to the raid, but needed for a quest, it is worth 1 DKP if more than one group is needed to take it down.

Example:
Cauldron Hollow is a 4 group raid zone. Killing Descendant of Torig (the boss of that zone) earns you 4 DKP.

Bonus
Sometimes the Raid Council awards a bonus for special situations.

Most important is the on-time bonus. Being on time (the time posted on the boards) and prepared (equipment mended, food and drink in packs, arrows bought etc.) earns you 1 DKP.

For long raids, a DKP bonus will be awarded. If the raid takes longer than 1 hour, the bonus is 1 DKP, if it takes longer than 2 hours, the bonus will be 2 DKP, and so on. A raid lasting 59 minutes gets no time bonus, a raid that lasts 61 minutes gets a 1 DKP bonus.

For extrordinary performance, the Raid Council can award bonus DKP for raids. There is no rule set for what an extraordinary performance is and what not. The Raid Council will decide this.

Another bonus is the First Kill Bonus. The first time Fabulae Marrii (no guests, no help) kills a raid target, this bonus is applied. Normally, the first kill bonus is the normal value of a mob.

Every time we get a new member, I take it as a personal victory. And every time someone leaves, I take it as a personal defeat. - Maliz
